# Business Operations Business Context: Entities and Relationships

> The entities, relationships, events, and evidence that define the Business Operations domain within Spine Fabric's unified context model.

Business Operations in SpineWorkspace is defined by a set of core entities and their relationships. The Spine Fabric ingests source records, resolves identities, and maintains this graph so every view and proposal is grounded in current data.

Entities:

* Process: a defined operational procedure with steps, SLA thresholds, and owner.
* Workflow: a running instance of a process with state, assignees, and approvals.
* Approval: a governed decision gate tied to a policy or contract.
* Vendor: an external party with risk tier, spend profile, and contract history.
* Contract: a legal agreement with term, renewal date, and associated vendor.
* Policy: an organizational rule with version, scope, and attestation requirements.
* OKR: an objective with linked key results, owners, and progress evidence.
* Initiative: a scoped project with timeline, resources, and linked OKRs.

Key relationships:

* A Process spawns many Workflows.
* A Workflow contains multiple Approvals.
* A Vendor is linked to one or more Contracts.
* A Policy governs many Approvals and may have Exceptions.
* An Objective owns Key Results, which are advanced by Initiatives.
* An Initiative consumes resources and produces evidence.

Events and evidence:

| Event | Evidence | Source System |
| - | - | - |
| Workflow started | Intake form, requester identity | Asana, Linear |
| Approval requested | Policy clause, scope, due date | Google Workspace, HRIS |
| Vendor onboarded | Due diligence record, contract | Notion, ERP |
| Policy attested | Signer identity, timestamp | Google Workspace, Notion |
| OKR progress updated | Metric value, commentary | Notion, Asana |
| Contract renewed | Updated term, approved amendment | ERP, Notion |

The Spine Fabric links these events into a unified timeline for any record, so practitioners see full provenance without switching systems.
